Formative Evaluation for Clinical Teaching in Nursing


Abstract
Formative evaluation is the use of systematic evaluation in the process of curriculum construction, teaching and learning for the purpose of improving any of these three porcesses.
For clinical teaching in nursing, the systematic use of formative evaluation in order to improve teaching and learning is of prime importance;
a. For curriculum structure, analysis of learning units and specifications of learning tasks be done in terms of cognitive, affective and psychomotor domain.
B. For teacher and teaching; formative evaluation results be feed-back to teaching quality control and the basis for the forecasting summative evaluation results.
C. For learner and learning; for mastery learning, learning speed can be adjusted to the ability of individual learner.
Formative evaluation results are to give feed back effect to all processes of education, also in determining the factors. Which had been the causes of failure.
In Korea, evaluation of clinical teaching and learning for nursing students had been depended mainly on headnurses¢¥ summative evaluation at the end of a term.
Formative evaluation through practical tests on hospital milieu conducted by teachers is yet a un-developed field.
For the development of systematic evaluation of clinical teaching, researches on application of formative evaluation theories is recommended.
